About RuleKits

Plain-English kits for the UK’s new rules.

The rules for small businesses in the UK are changing fast. Making Tax Digital for Income Tax is arriving for sole traders and landlords. The Employment Rights Act 2025 is changing what small employers must do. The official guidance is detailed, but it is long, and it is not always easy to turn into a simple to-do list.

RuleKits makes simple, ready-to-use kits that help you keep good records and understand what applies to you. Each kit is a spreadsheet or document pack you can download straight away and use in Excel or Google Sheets.

How we make our kits

  • Checked against official sources. We check every rate, threshold, date and legal rule against GOV.UK, HMRC guidance or legislation.gov.uk. Each kit has a Sources page listing the links and the date we checked them.
  • Clear about where it applies. Some rules cover the whole UK. Others apply only in England, Scotland or Wales. Every kit says which on its first page. Where Scotland is different, such as Scottish income tax bands, we say so.
  • Plain English. Short sentences. If we use a technical term, we explain it.
  • Made from scratch. Our kits are our own work. No macros, no hidden code, nothing to install.
  • Kept up to date. When a rule we cover changes, we update the kit and email customers who bought it.

Who is behind RuleKits?

What we are not

We are not accountants, tax advisers or solicitors, and we are not part of HMRC or the government. Our MTD kits keep your records, but they do not send anything to HMRC. To file under Making Tax Digital you also need HMRC-compatible bridging software.

Our kits and free tools are general information to help you keep records and understand the rules. They are not legal, tax or financial advice. Check your own situation with HMRC, GOV.UK or a qualified adviser. Rules can change; we update our kits when they do.
